Henderson Petrel - BirdForum Opus

Identification

36–37 cm (14-14½ in)

  • Bluish grey-brown overall plumage

Distribution

Australasia: breeds Henderson Island (south-eastern Pacific).

Wintering areas are currently unknown.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Pelagic except when breeding

Status

Endangered

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of squid, with the addition of fish and crustaceans.

Breeding

Nesting happens on surface as opposed to in burrows, and visits to the nest takes place in the afternoon into evening rather than at night only.
