Hemicircus canente

Identification

15–17 cm (5-6¾ in)

  • Thin neck
  • Large head with prominent crest
  • Short, rounded tail

Male

  • Black head

Distribution

Oriental region mainland. Peninsula India, Burma, Thailand and Indochina

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Humid and dense deciduous and evergreen forests and forest edges. Also secondary and bamboo forests.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects, ants, termites and larvae. They feed, singly in pairs and in mixed species flocks.
