Eastern Africa: Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi
Taxonomy
This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- C. v. verticalis:
- C. v. viridisplendens:
- Western and southern South Sudan and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to central Kenya, south to northeastern Zambia and northern Malawi
- C. v. boehndorffi:
- Southern Cameroon to Central African Republic, northern Angola and southern Democratic Republic of the Congo
- C. v. cyanocephala:
- Coastal Equatorial Guinea and Gabon to mouth of Congo River
Habitat
Forests, savana, farmland and gardens with trees.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of nectar, insects, small fruits and seeds.
