Identification
18–20 cm (7-7¾ in)
- Greyish-brown head and nape
- Pale grey underparts
- Yellow-green flanks
Distribution
South America: found in the Andes of Bolivia to north-western Argentina and northern Chile.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1], which in the past has been placed in genus Bolborhynchus.
Habitat
Montane scrub, dense shrubs and agricultural land.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of grass seeds, herbs and berries.
Breeding
They nest in a hole, which could be in a bank, cactus or deserted building.
