South America: found in Colombia and adjacent Venezuela.

There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- M. o. chrysops:
- West and Central Andes of Colombia (Antioquia to Cauca and Huila)
- M. o. ornatus:
- Eastern Andes of Colombia and adjacent south-western Venezuela (Táchira)
Habitat
Cloud forest between 2000–3400 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of insects.
