Distribution

Colombia (rare), Ecuador, and Peru.

Taxonomy

This species has formerly been placed in genus Tangara.

Subspecies

Two subspecies are recognized in this species¹:

• I. p. pulcherrimus:

• Eastern slope of Andes of Colombia to eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru

• I. p. aureinucha:

• Subtropical western Ecuador

Habitat

Wet forests and forest edges.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet is thought to consist of berries, nectar and insects.
