Identification
15 - 17cm.
- Black crown, side of head and neck
- Yellow back, rump and uppertail-coverts
- Black upperwing and tail
- Black chin and side of throat
- White centre of throat
- Broad black breastband
- Yellow rest of underparts
Sexes similar. Juveniles have olive edged crown feathers and yellow upperparts with an olive wash.
Distribution
Endemic to New Guinea where found locally in the Weyland Mountains, Snow Mountains and a few other localities to the southeast.
Locally very common but distribution very patchily.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Belongs to a species group around the Golden Whistler complex.
Habitat
Found in shrubs, secondary growth, tall canegrass and other vegetation along rivers. From sea-level up to 700m, locally higher.

Diet
Feeds on insects. Behaviour obviously similar like Golden Whistler.
Breeding
No information about breeding.
Movements
Resident species.
