Identification
16cm.
- Dull brown with streaks anove
- White or cream below
- Rufous crown
- White stripe above eye
- Dark brown stripe through eye
- Breast has rufous streaks
- Dark brown iris
- Pale horn bill
- Pink brown legs
Distribution
Africa: found in eastern Ethiopia and Somalia
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Two to three subspecies recognized:
- M. g. gilletti in eastern Ethiopia and nortwest Somalia
- M. g. arorihensis from central Somalia to northeast Kenya
- M. g. degodiensis in southeast Ethiopia
degodi is not recognized by Clements. It was was formerly considered to be a full species, Degodi Lark. However, recent research (Collar et al., 2009) reported in this thread showed that the Degodi Lark and Gillett's Lark are conspecific.
Habitat
Grassy areas in semi-arid savanna and woodland.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes caterpillars and grasshoppers, and it is a ground feeder.
Breeding
Monogomous.
