There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- C. c. mearnsi :
- Extreme south-eastern California to Arizona and north-western Mexico (northern Sonora)
- C. c. tenebrosus:
- North-western Mexico (n Sonora to n Sinaloa)
- C. c. brunnescens:
- Northern and central Baja California
- C. c. chrysoides:
- Southern Baja California
Habitat
Desert, dry scrub.
Behaviour
Diet
They have a varied diet consisting of insects, ants and their larvae, fruit, berries and nuts.
