Fulvous Owl - BirdForum Opus

Strix fulvescens

Identification

Smaller than the nearest populations of Cinereous Owl.

Distribution

Central America: found in the mountains of southern Mexico (eastern Oaxaca and Chiapas) to El Salvador.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

It has been assumed to be a subspecies of Barred Owl in the past

Habitat

Pine-oak forest and humid forest at hights above 1200 m above sea level

Behaviour

Breeding

Breeds in natural holes in tree trunks.
