  • Glossy black overall plumage
  • Yellowish crown patch
  • White flanks

Distribution

Northern South America: found in Venezuela, the Guianas, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • T. s. surinamus:
  • T. s. brevipes:
  • T. s. napensis:
  • Tropical eastern Peru (south of the Amazon) and north-western Brazil
  • T. s. insignis:
  • Northern Brazil south of the Amazon (lower Rio Madeira to Pará)

Habitat

They are usually found in the canopy of interior terra firme forests.

Behaviour

Diet

There diet consists mostly of insects and fruit.

Breeding

The nest is a deep open cup, but there is little more information.
