Identification

Distinctive white spots around the eye, long tail and distinctive colour patterns

Distribution

Central America: found in tropical western Mexico (south-eastern Sonora) to north-central Nicaragua.

Also occurs in Texas.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Formerly placed in genus Euthlypis.

Habitat

Cloud Forest; riparian, mixed oak/alligator juniper/sycamore strewn with large rock and boulders. Observed at heights around ca. 1,494 m (4,900 ft) elevation,

Behaviour

Always on or near the ground, actively searching for insects.
