  • Red lower breast to upper belly
  • Yellow green forehead and crown
  • Wide black band across nape
  • Red cheeks and throat
  • Yellow ear coverts
  • Blue-black upper breast band
  • Orange red edges to inner wing coverts
  • Cream-yellow stripes to underwing
  • Grey black bill
  • Red iris

Female

  • Similar to male
  • Wide, dark blue breast band
  • Yellow green lower breast to upper belly

Distribution

Lowlands of north-eastern New Guinea (Humboldt Bay to Huon Gulf).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1]. In the past it was considered a part of Salvadori's Fig Parrot.

Habitat

Humid lowland forest.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes fruits (particularly figs) and nectar.

Breeding

The clutch consists of 2 eggs.
