Identification

19–21cm.

  • Grey breast and head
  • White chin and throat
  • Cream belly
  • Black bristles on hindneck and mantle
  • Olive green mantle, wings and rump
  • Rusty maroon tail
  • Sexes alike

Distribution

Africa
Western Africa: Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, northern Angola and eastern Zaire.
Eastern Africa: extreme western Uganda
Gulf of Guinea Islands

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Rainforest and cloud forest to 1800m.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects, larvae and fruit.

Breeding

The nest is cup-shaped. The 2 eggs are incubated by the female for 14 days.
