Stephanophorus diadematus

Identification

  • Blue underparts and upper back
  • Dark purple blue wings and tail
  • White crown
  • Red central crown patch
  • Black patch above and below bill
  • Silvery throat
  • Dark iris
  • Grey, hooked, small bill

Distribution

South America: found from Paraguay to south-eastern Brazil, Uruguay and north-eastern Argentina.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Forest borders, open country with patches of trees.
