  • Crimson breast and vent
  • Brown iris
  • Grey feet

Male

  • Rest of plumage black-brown
  • Yellow bill
  • 2 spurs

Female

  • Rest of plumage olive brown
  • Brown bill
  • 1 spur

Distribution

South-east Asia: found in the montane forests of northern Borneo.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Heath forests and dry sandy forests of valley bottoms in mountains.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists of berries and insects. Small crustaceans have also been recorded.

Breeding

There is very little known about their breeding behaviour.

Vocalisation

Metallic kak kak kak or pom-prang, pom-prang.
