Male

  • Black head, neck and back
  • Bright red orange hind collar and bar across scapulars
  • Narrow white supercilium

Female Olive grey upperparts

  • Yellowish-buff underparts

Distribution

Endemic to Taiwan.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Coniferous and broadleaf forests in high mountains.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects and caterpillars.

Breeding

The female builds the nest from grass, hay, moss and roots in a natural or a tree cavity. The clutch of 2-3 eggs are incubated by the female. Both sexes care for the young.
