Identification

Male

  • Iridescent, purple crest
  • Metallic green head
  • Bare blue orbital skin
  • Reddish-gold mantle
  • Black underparts

Female

  • Dark brown barred back
  • White throat
  • Blackish-brown, buff streaked underparts

Distribution

Asia: found in the mountains of south-western China (southern Gansu, north-western Sichuan and Yunnan).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Mountains, coniferous forest, alpine meadow.

Behaviour

The clutch consists of 3-5 eggs which are incubated for 28 days.
