Chestnut-headed Nunlet - BirdForum Opus

Identification

14-15 cm

Rufous bristles around bill
Rufous on nape, entire head and most of underparts, becoming whitish on central belly and undertail coverts
Upperside including wings and tail is dull olive brown
Bill is dark with blue-gray at base, legs and feet are dark.
Iris red in adult and brown in immature

South America: found only in north-western Brazil north of the Amazon and west of Río Negro.

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Seasonally flooded woodland where it is found in understory. Occasionally found in secondgrowth.

Very little is known; insects are expected to be important food items.

Supposedly a quiet species not moving much so easy to overlook.
