- Rust brown upperparts
- Lighter wings and rump
- Greyish-white underparts
- Greyish-white forehead, sides of head, breast
- Yellow tinge to flanks and belly

- Blackish-brown bill and feet
Female: slightly smaller, no yellow tinge on the underparts
Distribution
Chatham Islands off New Zealand.
