Genus: Sericossypha
Description
This genus contains only one species, the distinctive White-capped Tanager.
This is a fairly large, icterid-like Tanager, behaving similar to a Jay.
Taxonomy
Sericossypha is a monotypic genus in the family Thraupidae.
Restall has a note describing uncertainties in the placement of this species. However, molecular-genetic data support the placement in the current family and show that Nemosia is probably a sister-taxon.
Scarlet-throated Tanager is sometimes included in this genus.
