Genus: Ptilorrhoa
Description
Jewel-babblers from New Guinea.
Similar in size and shape to the Quail-thrushes but with a very different coloration of the plumage. Their plumage is mainly electric blue with some white, black and chestnut. All species are shy and elusive and more often heard than seen.
Taxonomy
Ptilorrhoa is a genus in the family Cinclosomatidae.
Osteologically the Jewel-babblers are inseparable from the Quail-thrushes and molecular evidence supports a close relationship. Both genera were formerly included in the family Eupetidae
Some authorities accept the Dimorphic Jewel-babbler as a full species, here it is treated as a subspecies of the Blue Jewel-babbler.
