Genus: Newtonia
Description
This genus consists of four species endemic to Madagascar.
They share:
- Relatively chunky bills
- Drab colouration
- Thick necks
- Pale irides
Taxonomy
Newtonia is a genus in the family Vangidae. This placement is suggested by genetic analyses, comparisons of voice and nest structure.
The placement of this genus was long uncertain and it has been placed in Muscicapidae and Sylviidae in the past.
