Genus: Astrapia
Description
The five Astrapias from New Guinea are a genus of Birds-of-paradise.
They have a mainly black plumage with various iridiscence colours in it. Males have a very long tail which can have extremly elongated centrail tail-feathers.
Females are much duller, finely barred underneath and have shorter tails.
Presumably all species are polygynous and males attend leks for their display.
Taxonomy
Astrapia is a genus in the family Paradisaeidae.
