Genus: Aquila
Description
Taxonomy
Aquila is a genus in the family Accipitridae.
Some authorities include the genus Hieraaetus in Aquila. Reference for this should be: Wink, Loftikhah and Bednarek, 1998, in Chancellor, Mayburg and Ferraro, eds. Holarctic Birds of Prey (29-48). In this treatement Bonelli's Eagle and African Hawk-Eagle have been moved from Hieraaetus to Aquila, Cassin's Hawk-Eagle from Spizaetus to here.
The three species of the genus Clanga were formerly included in this genus.
