Western Africa: Senegambia, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DRC and Angola
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

• P. i. flavodorsalis:

• Disjunct from Sierra Leone to south-western Nigeria

• P. i. insignis:

• South-eastern Nigeria to northern Angola, Zaire, southern Sudan, Uganda and central Kenya

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes beeswax, waxworms, larvae, insects, spiders and some fruits.

Breeding

It is a brood parasite.
