Identification
Long rufous tail.
Distribution
Africa
Western Africa: found only in DRC and Angola.
Eastern Africa: South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
There are 5 subspecies:
- P. c. placidus:
- Northern Kenya to Tanzania, north-eastern Zambia, Malawi and north-eastern Mozambique
- P. c. sucosus:
- Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to extreme southern South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, western Kenya, and northwestern Tanzania
- P. c. cabanisi:
- P. c. nandensis:
- Western Kenya (northern Nandi Hills)
- P. c. ngurumanensis:
- South-Western Kenya (Nguruman Hills)
The subspecies placidus is sometimes split as Placid Greenbul, Phyllastrephus placidus[2].
Habitat
Thickets and tangles in highland forests, often along streams.
