Central and South America:
Central America: Panama
South America: Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

There are 4 subspecies:

  • P. p. berlepschi:
  • Mountains of extreme eastern Panama and adjacent north-western Colombia
  • P. p. annectens:
  • Andes of south-western Colombia and north-western Ecuador (south to El Oro)
  • P. p. pelzelni:
  • P. p. peruvianus:
  • Andes of eastern Peru (San Martín to Cuzco)

Habitat

Moist montanes.
