Identification

36cm

  • Red plumage
  • Blue patches from the rear of eyes across ear coverts
  • Blue streaks on nape
  • Black wing coverts
  • Orange-brown bill
  • Brown iris
  • Grey feet

Distribution

Indonesia: Tanimbar Islands (Arafura Sea)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Mangrove, coconut groves, plantations and forests.

Behaviour

Breeding

They nest in a tree hollow. The clutch of 2-3 eggs are incubated for 24-26 days. The young fledge about 7 weeks later.

Diet

The diet includes fruit, seeds, buds, nectar, unripe grain, and pollen.
