Identification

15cm

  • Green plumage
  • Blue forehead
  • Narrow band of red under eye
  • Red shoulders and leading edge of underwing
  • Yellow underwing coverts
  • Short tail, edged yellow

Distribution

Central and South America: found in humid eastern Panama to north-western Venezuela and north-western Ecuador.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Formerly considered conspecific with Red-fronted Parrotlet.

Habitat

Cloud forest at elevations from 800-1600m. Has been observed as low as 100m.

Behaviour

Breeding

It excavates its nest in an arboreal termite mound.
