Identification

45-50 cm

  • White plumage
  • Large yellow and white crest
  • Yellow under wings and tail
  • Blue eyerings
  • Black bill,
  • Iris: black in males, reddish in females

Distribution

Australasia: found in the Bismarck Archipelago (New Britain and New Ireland) and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Behaviour

Breeding

They nest in tree hollows. The 2 eggs are incubated by both sexes.

Diet

The diet includes seed, nuts, berries, fruit, insects and larvae.
