Taxonomy
Riparian Antbird was formerly included in this species.
Formerly placed in genus Cercomacra.
Subspecies
There are 5 subspecies[1]:
- C. n. nigrescens:
- Coastal Suriname, French Guiana, adjacent Brazil (Amazonas, Pará)
- C. n. aequatorialis:
- C. n. notata:
- East Andean slope of central Peru (western Ucayali to Junín)
- C. n. approximans:
- C. n. ochrogyna:
- East-central Amazonian Brazil
The subspecies C. n. fuscicauda, formerly included with this species, has now been split into a separate species of Riparian Antbird (C. fuscicauda).
Habitat
Dense undergrowth in varzea forest.

Diet
