Taxonomy
Has been considered conspecific with and Bismarck Black Myzomela.
Subspecies
There are 6 subspecies[1]:
- M. n. steini: Waigeo Island (New Guinea)
- M. n. nigrita: New Guinea and Aru Islands
- M. n. meyeri: Northern New Guinea and Yapen Island
- M. n. pluto: Meos Num Island (New Guinea)
- M. n. forbesi: D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago
- M. n. louisiadensis: Louisiade Archipelago
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, forest edges and tall secondary growth.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of nectar and insects.
