Identification
Size : 10 in; described as reminding of a quail. Dark slate head with chestnut forehead and crown and bare pink skin around eye. Dark slate back, neck, throat, and upper breast; lower back with light rufous, especially to upper tail coverts. Chestnut-rufous lower breast; rufous-brown flanks and thigh. Wings with black primaries; slate wing coverts bordered with dark rufous. Black tail. Blackish bill. Big and black feet.
Distribution
South America: found in Chile and Argentina.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1]; it has sometimes been suggested that it should include Chestnut-throated Huet-huet.
Habitat
Forests, often near bamboo.
Behaviour
A shy bird.
Breeding
Its nest is made of dry grass. 2-3 white eggs are laid.
Diet
The diet consists mostly of insects, worms and seeds.
