Identification

- Green belly and wings
- Brown tail
- Whitish grey head and neck with a purple base
- Red iris
- Small black patch under yellow bill
Female has green head, neck and breast.
Distribution
Mainly found on the Philippines but also a very rare resident on Taiwan. Accidentally in South Japan.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized[1].
- P. l. taiwanus
- Taiwan (mainly in the south)
- P. l. longialis:
- Lan-yü Island (Taiwan); Batan, Calayan and Camiguin Norte islands
- P. l. leclancheri:
- Philippines (except Palawan, Basilan and Sulu Archipelago)
- P. l. gironieri:
- Palawan (south-western Philippines)
Subspecies taiwanus is not recognised by all authorities[3]
Habitat
Uncommon in forest patches up to 1500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes fruits.
Breeding
The nest is made from twigs. They lay a single egg.
