Identification

10 cm (4 in)

  • Silvery grey-blue head
  • Darker grey upperparts and tail
  • White wings
  • Dark grey throat, upper breast, and underparts
  • Black eye
  • Grey conical bill

Distribution

South America: found in South East Brazil (southern Goiás and Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Old tall grassland beside wetlands at heights around 700–1000 m.

Behaviour

They forage in pairs or small parties for grass seeds.

Breeding

The small cup-shaped nest is constructed by the female from grass fibres.
