Identification
Very small (9 cm)
Male: Forehead and crown flat slaty grey. White spot at the base of the nape. Back, rump and uppertail coverts as crown, small white tips to the rump. Short white supercillia over the lores. Lores and earcoverts black. Chin and throat white. Medium black breast band, rest of underparts white. White wing coverts and margins to the tertials, rest of wing black. Tail black. Eye yellow, bill and legs black.
Female: As male, slightly longer supercillia - reaching the centre of the top of the eye; breast band dark rufous, narrow in the centre but widening and running down the fore flanks.
Distribution
Western Africa: found in the forests of south-eastern Gabon to western Angola, Cabinda and adjacent DRC

Habitat
Dry forests.
Behaviour
Similar to that of other Batis species.
Vocalisation
Series of soft whistles. Buzzy call infrequent and usually not connected with other calls.
