Eastern Africa: Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi
Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are two subspecies[1]
- O. a. auratus:
- Senegambia to Sudan, Uganda, southern Ethiopia and southern Somalia
- O. a. notatus:
- Angola to Tanzania, Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa
Habitat
Thick bush and other well-wooded areas.
Behaviour
Breeding
The nest is basket-shaped, suspended in a tree; 2 eggs are laid.
Diet
The diet includes insects and fruit, especially figs.
Vocalisation
Call: a Jay-like screech
Song: fluting fee-ooo fee-ooo
