Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32 (7 Viewers)

@John Cantelo

"She explained that they were well aware of the issue...and that two new formulae (which they hoped would solve the problem) were currently being tested."

"extremely convincing...." :ROFLMAO:
Wel’ll, guess it states something about the statement they need months for a repair….

Ähm...no!

Ähm...yes!

Update: I've now got my EL 8x32s back from Swarovski after being repaired; took about 6 weeks. They look like new but there was no report with them to say what they did so I've no idea whether they re-armoured them with the same duff armour or used something new or an older armour version. I just hope it doesn't happen again; they are still less than five years old. As previously stated, now many pages back in this long thread, I returned them to the dealer I bought them from, who have been excellent throughout.

Last post from me on this thread; there are too many pointless posts, but the informative ones have been helpful to me. SGBirder: I do hope you get yours repaired.

Edit: Just to add; I never used insect repellent near my binoculars, don't have sweaty hands and not used my bins in very hot places. I do however use them every day.

Good to hear that, hope it holds up well!

I will hold out on my repair for now, might wait for the new material. Migration season's starting soon anyway.

Since the discussions here are going nowhere, my last post in this thread is a good read. Puts things well in perspective for those who doubt!
Have a good one and enjoy your Swaro's!
Most people do! ;)

Glad your job here is done!

Good riddance...

Disclaimer: I'm not a Swaro fan...
...but it's hard to not be stunned by the armor failure. In many (most) cases it does look like heavy use (professional?) but I'm not sure I've seen the same degree of 'catastrophic' failure of cladding in any other premium brand? That's NOT saying others don't have their problems or that Swaro isn't justified just by virtue of optics (tho it's not my cuppa')... just that it is indeed something that seems valid to ponder. I respect the desire to make an environmentally righteous product, but if you were to consider cradle-to-cradle impact of failing plastic, I would tend to favor something better.
Some look as though they've been run over by a lawn mower.

Nope, mine too, from the UK to Austria and back, repaired in about four weeks.

Same here , New York to Rhode Island to Austria, back to Rhode Island then back to New York , seven weeks. No re-armoring just collimation and focuser tightened up.
.
Just pointing out diekmann2's hypocrisy in not believing others' "unsupported statements" (his words), yet doing the same thing himself of citing his "birdingmate" to make a point.

Unlike diekmannn2, I believe all of you :)

If the coating fails on my EL 8x32 FP I might ask my other half to knit or crochet some little woolly jackets to slip over the barrels and tie in place with ribbons. They would be nice and warm to hold and should offer a degree of protection from knocks and scrapes. I am sure we can find some Swarovski green wool somewhere.

I am not being entirely serious.

Good Idea !!!
And it would also be a good opportunity to bring some color !!
Btw, a good knitter wouldn't need any ribbon !
