Glossy Ibis showing well this morning at Sandbach flashes in the winter sun!
Didn't seem to be damaging its bill on the permafrost. It was bitterly cold.......

With my regular local patch of Marbury & Witton fairly quiet at the mo and having connected again with the few Bramblings still in Hartford, I decided to spend a free day visiting some old haunts. Down at Richmond Bank there were 2 Yellow-legged Gulls in with the masses of Herring Gulls (hi again Pete ..) and then moved on to the Wirral. BMW was frozen and only a few birds were around but on the outer marshes the Bewick's and Whoopers were still present and a few Whitefronts could be picked out amongst a large distant flock of Pinkfeet. A ringtail Hen Harrier floated by before I moved on to Neston. There, a male Stonechat and a female Marsh Harrier were on the marshes and at the sewage works the Water Pipit showed well along with a Chiffchaff and Grey Wag. Parkgate was quiet as was West Kirby ML but about 40 Pale-bellied Brents could be picked out distantly on the incoming tide towards Hillbre. Just 1 Short-eared Owl was off Denhall Lane at dusk and amongst the Little Egrets, 1 Great White Egret flew in to roost. All this and a typically superb Deeside sunset.

Opposite Elton Hall Flash Jane. Park up at the Elton Hall view point the. View the field opposite the view point by going through the hedge to view the wet cow field.

I'm considering a trip into cheshire this weekend. Hoping to find the glossy ibis and iceland gull at sandbach before moving onto the wirral for the geese and swans.

I don't know the area well and would appreciate some advice on how to get to and park at the locations for Glossy Ibis, Iceland gull.

Similarly for the locations mentioned above, BMW?, Neston and Parkgate.

Thanks in advance.

BMW is fairly straight forward, from the m56 take the a540 toward Hoylake. After the traffic lights (crossroads at Mini dealership "Two Mills") take the turning for "Craxton Wood Hotel" and follow this counntry road until you see a sign for Burton Mere Wetlands.

Try http://www.deeestuary.co.uk/news1011.htm for RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands and http://www.deeestuary.co.uk/neshore.htm#neston for Neston and Parkgate, click on the map and directions link on that page. Plenty of parking at all locations.

Glossy Ibis

Still there this morning. Seemed a little agitated for a while and flew away three times whilst i was there but always returned after about 10 mins.

From Neston take the road towards Burton/Ness Gardens. Go under the two bridges and continue along the road for about 1/2 mile until you come to a mini roundabout. Turn right here into Marshlands Road. Continue to the end and the follow the coastal path north over a stile and you will see a stream with brickworks adjacent to it. This area is favoured by the Water Pipits. The other place to look is the sewage works. Follow the path inland to view the sewage works and the best viewing spot is by the entrance.
