Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I've had the wonderful spectacle of between 150 and 200 Starlings gathering on the field outside...and on the feeders, plus c.80 Redwing with a few Fieldfare chucked in for good measure.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Same here but then that's quite usual! But I was hoping the cold would attract more onto my feeder and sure enough, the blackbird has dared to venture onto it, though she took some effort to actually land on the seed tray! What has been interesting to watch is the intimidating behaviour of the...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Cheers Dave. I have no problem with the Corvids, they are highly entertaining to watch on all accounts with their balancing acts and different ways of getting at food. The Magpies especially, burying food under gravel to get the next day :) I'm afraid I appear to have no pics of the layout but...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Not posted in here for a long while, had a busy year! Moved house and had to leave the birding station that I worked so hard to keep up, nearly 40 species I managed there. My new place is out on its own on the edge of fields with trees a good way away. The birds have one large coniferous hedge...

It certainly outshone the robins and dunnocks! but only for a little while. and two minutes later the local Sprawk was about in the sky so I hope it's days aren't numbered! Just an escapee I'm sure but would be lovely to see it again!

heavy rain this morning and not much left on the feeders, I'm letting them run right down now its a bit milder so I can take them down and wash them. Still the regulars keep a-coming though, always hopeful! I can't remember if it was this thread someone was asking about how well a corn on the...

we have a lot of crows round here that have partial loss of colouring in the wing feathers and tail... bit of a long shot but if they're not just a bit leucistic then are they mating with magpies? lol

Wow, having hummers in the garden, what a treat! Well it would be to me, I expect they're the equivalent of our Blue Tits over there?

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I'm lucky to have a pair of Bullfinches that have got really plucky in the last fortnight, now feeding in full view. It has to be mentioned it was the female that took the courage to emerge first, the male's got the hang of the idea now :-O Here's my BGB list, really chuffed with it! Amazed my...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Well not through choice, we had to chop down an Elder tree as it was getting destructive so thought I'd put a bit of it to good use. Hate chopping trees down but sometimes its necessary. well yesterday i filled them with a mix of breadcrumbs, left over fat from a lamb stew and sultanas. All...

Oh how sad, very sorry to read this. On a brighter note, the garden has not disappointed me today. After much patience I have finally managed to see not one, not two but three Jays come right up to the feeders today. They didn't eat much but they were there all the same. And then the most...

Now got the garden species count up to 28 so far this year! Added Heron and Wren to it this morning, not seen the heron at all over this winter (not surprising as the pond's been iced over!) but he landed in a tree and was quickly seen off by a couple of crows. The wren I hardly see due to the...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

My feeders are busy busy busy atm, not to rub it in! I'm delighted to have a pair of Nuthatches, newcomers who grab beakfuls of sunflowers seeds then fly away to the nearest tree and hammer them into the bark. My niger seed is being left alone despite me seeing greenfinches, chaffinches...

First Nuthatch in the garden today! Not even see one in this area although seen a few Treecreepers. I thought I saw it yesterday but it didn't stick around long enough for me to get the bins, so glad I've been proved right today! It was around for a while, hopping all over the feeders and even...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Ah something new! First witnessed raptor attack in the garden! RIGHT OUTSIDE the window! It happened so quick I had no idea what had gone on. Something fast swooped on a bird on the wall and straight through the bush. I was so shocked i stopped for a few seconds before heading out into the...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Nothing new to report, although one of the local grey squirrels came up to individually inspect all the feeders...then he went away without trying to destroy or take food from any! I was chuffed to bits...perhaps I have won the battle...this time :) The loyal robin (even though I have 4 in the...
