Identification
23cm (9 in)
Male
- Olive-brown upperparts
- Paler and greyer underparts
- Dark narrow streaks on buff-grey chin, throat and breast
- Orange-yellow bill
- Flesh-coloured to yellow legs
- Orange underwing-coverts
Female: similar but paler overall
- Buff underparts
- Dark belly and flank streaks
Distribution
Middle East: found in the mountains of south-western Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Mountainous areas with a dense cover of native trees and shrubs including woodlands, thickets, copses, orchards and large gardens.
Behaviour
Breeding
The cup nest made of dry grass, twigs, moss and thin strips of bark. The mud interior is lined with fine grass and rootlets. The clutch consists of 1-3 eggs.
Diet
The diet includes invertebrates such as snails, and fruits.
