Identification
9.5-10.2cm (3¾-4 in)
- Rufous-brown head
- Yellowish loral spot
- White coronal patch with black feather tips (usually not visible in field)
- Olive upperparts, duskier on wings and tail
- Pale yellow underparts with smudgy olivaceous breastband
- Broad and flat bill, blackish above, pale below
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.
Patchily distributed.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]

Habitat
Undergrowth in cloud forest.
Found at 1250-2100m in Venezuela, 1800-2300m in Colombia and 750-1700m in Ecuador.
Behaviour
A very difficult to see species. Perches motionless in the open for long periods.
Diet
Diet little known. Feeds probably on arthropods.
Breeding
Birds in breeding condition were seen in Venezuela from April to June. No other information about breeding.
Movements
A resident species.
