Identification
20–20·5 cm; a large and brightly coloured bulbul.
Distribution
Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Indonesia, Greater Sundas and Sumatra.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]
- A. p. phaeocephalus:
- Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Bangka, Belitung and North Natuna Islands
- A. p. connectens:
- North-eastern Borneo
- A. p. sulphuratus:
- Central, east and southern Borneo
- A. p. diardi:
- Western Borneo
Habitat
Found in broad-leaved lowland and hill evergreen forest, frequents lower storey of forest up to 915 m in elevation.
Behaviour
Omnivorous; their diet consisting of both insects and fruit.
