Identification
8.9 cm. Straight, long, black bill 2 cm. Bright golden-green upperparts, bronze tail, white underparts, green, or white spotted with green, flanks, purple-black tipped tail. The sexes are similar.
Distribution
Trinidad and northern South America.
Taxonomy
Three subspecies are recognized, brevirostris, chionopectus, and orienticola. This species has in the past been named Amazilia chionopectus, and it is sometimes placed in genus Agyrtria as Agyrtria brevirostris.
Habitat
Open woodland and cultivation.
Behaviour
It builds a small cup shaped nest from plant fibre which is placed on a horizontal tree branch.
The diet includes nectar and small insects.
