Linaria johannis

Identification

13 cm

  • Pale grey upperparts
  • Black wings and tail
  • White patch at base of primaries
  • White rump
  • Rust-coloured lower back
  • White underparts with rust-buff flanks.

Distribution

Eastern Africa: found in montane juniper forests of northern Somalia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Carduelis.

Habitat

Dry forests, high-altitude shrubland open country and juniper woodland.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes seeds of grasses and sage.
