Overview

The Wapack National Wildlife Refuge provides a nesting habitat for migratory songbirds and is also visited by migrating hawks. The refuge is located about 20 miles west of Nashua, New Hampshire and consists of 1,672 acres.

  • Hunting, fishing, trapping, tree cutting, and motorized vehicles are prohibited within the refuge.

History and Use

Wapack NWR was established in 1972 and is New Hampshire's first refuge. It is administered by the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Access and Facilities

The easiest way to access the refuge portion of the Wapack Trail is to park in the parking area of Miller State Park, which is located southeast of Peterborough, New Hampshire, off of Route 101.
