Identification

- Dark brownish-olive upper-parts
- Brown head
- Grey face
- Sulphur-yellow rump
- Rounded black tail
- White throat
- Tawny-brown breast
- Dull yellow mid belly
Distribution
Central and South America:
Central America: found only in Nicaragua and Panama
South America: occurs in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- M. v. villosus:
- M. v. schaeferi:
- Eastern Andes of northern Colombia and extreme western Venezuela (Táchira)
- M. v. clarus:
- Foothills of eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru (south to Junín)
- M. v. peruvianus:
- Foothills of south-eastern Peru (Puno) and north-western Bolivia (La Paz)
Habitat
Moist montane forests near streams.
Behaviour
Attends ant swarms.
