Identification

It is the size of a domestic chicken.

Distribution

Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia.

Taxonomy

It is sometimes considered to be a subspecies of Orange-footed Scrubfowl, Megapodius reinwardt.

Habitat

Forest and scrub.

Behaviour

Terrestrial.

Diet

The diet includes seeds, fallen fruit and terrestrial invertebrates.

Breeding

It nests in large mounds of sand, leaf litter and other debris where the heat generated by the decomposition of organic material incubates the eggs.
