Identification
11.5 - 12 cm
- White eyering interrupted by a black spot at front
- Black forehead and lores, merging into yellowish-olive of upperparts on forecrown
- Yellow underparts, greenish wash on flanks and side of breast
- Bright yellow bill
- Yellow legs
Sexes similar. Juveniles haven't been described yet.
Distribution
Endemic to Gizo (Ghizo) in western-central Solomon Islands.
An endangered, restricted-range species. The island of Gizo is densely populated and has lost almost all its forest. The species survives in scrub and secondary growth and in fragmented old-growth forest and is still fairly common.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It's sometimes considered conspecific with Ganongga White-eye.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and plantations. Often in gulleys and older secondary growth.
Behaviour
